On Friday, Lonzo Ball debuted in the Las Vegas Summer League with his team the Los Angeles Lakers against the Los Angeles Clippers. Things got off to a great start for the highly touted prospect when Ball dished a nice alley-oop to second year player Brandon Ingram.

Great play by the coach to get the youngster into the flow of the game. The crowd loved it and probably sent out “Lonzo for MVP” tweets to all of their Warrior friends. Unfortunately, that was really only Ball’s one highlight from the whole night. Ball went on to make just 2 of 15 shots overall, and shot 1 of 11 from three pointers. Additionally, he only chipped in with 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 turnovers.
Due to his father’s big mouth, of course Lonzo took a lot of heat on Twitter for his lackluster performance. The haters loved it. While you are berating Lonzo and his father on Twitter, let me remind you that this was just a Summer League game and he is a rookie. There will be growing pains for Lonzo and he will have his bad games, but let’s not blow it out of proportion every time just because his father is a loud mouth douche. After the game, Lavar Ball had this to say about his son:

Welp, when even your father is saying you had an awful game, you probably had an awful game. However, it’s only up from here most likely for Lonzo. He comes out next game and shoots close to 50%, Laker fans will return from hiding and be celebrating like they just got word that Magic Johnson is returning to the Lakers in his prime.
Due to the poor performance from Lonzo, Twitter was full of his lowlights. If you are a Lonzo hater or hate him because of his father, enjoy.
Here is a clip of Brice Johnson, former UNC Tarheel, dunking over the smaller Ball.

Definitely a mismatch, but I’m sure Joel Embiid is smiling somewhere. Remember, he was telling his boy Ben Simmons to “Please dunk on him so hard that his daddy runs on the court to save him..” This was right after Lonzo was drafted by the Lakers.
Another video that was circulating the social media airwaves was this clip of Lonzo bricking a deep three, then Magic Johnson shaking his after.

Out of all the top rookie guards in the NBA who have made their debut in Summer League, Lonzo definitely had a night to forget. Guards De’Aaron Fox and Markelle Fultz, players Lonzo was compared to heavily during the draft, both shined for their respective teams by flashing both great plays on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. I’m sure Lonzo will find his groove and get back to making the sweet assists and plays that he was making at UCLA; however, until then, Twitter is going to light him up for every mishap.
